While rough-cut planning runs automatically every day, e.g. as a server process, and provides an overview of the utilization of resources and production deadlines for production orders, detailed planning is used to manually optimize the planning results, e.g. for setup sequence optimization. Ideally, rough and detailed planning are interlinked. The planner transfers the next planned and operating orders from rough-cut planning to detailed planning in order to then move them from one resource to another, split the production order, merge orders or postpone the production date.
